Impact and entrepreneurship
An entrepreneurial university
At Chalmers, entrepreneurial action is a mindset that permeates our research, education, how we create impact, and how we collaborate with society. We see entrepreneurship as the ability to identify opportunities, take initiative, and create value – whether that happens in a lab, a startup, a classroom, or in collaboration with industry.

Beyond ‘bad’ cholesterol: new clues to the risk of heart disease
Researchers at Chalmers University of Technology, in Sweden, shed new light on the remaining risk of heart disease, even after the known risk factor of ‘bad’ cholesterol is brought down to a healthy level. In a new study, key biological pathways – and an understanding of how the body is affected – were identified for the particles believed to contribute to the remaining disease risk. The results pave the way for more closely targeted prevention in heart disease which ultimately may save more lives.

Tailored magnetic fields open the door to advanced future technologies
From medical diagnostics and quantum technologies to fusion energy and particle physics, many of tomorrow's key technologies rely on precisely controlled magnetic fields. Now, researchers at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona and Chalmers University of Technology have developed a method that can transform the magnetic field from a single source into virtually any other magnetic field, with mathematical precision.

Could grass become the clothes of the future?
Producing textile fibres from wood involves extracting cellulose from a structure that is tougher and more resistant than that of grass. But what if grass offered an easier – and potentially more environmentally friendly – alternative? Researchers at Chalmers University of Technology have produced dissolving pulp from grass and clover residues. Working with collaborators, they have also spun the pulp into fibres and knitted a small fabric sample. The results open up new possibilities for turning agricultural residues into valuable materials.

Awarded for rethinking cancer support
The 2026 Chalmers Impact Award goes to Andreas Hellström for his work with Kraftens hus – where innovation methods from the university have helped develop support for people affected by cancer.
