This page explains how to pay, your payment obligations, fees during your studies and when tuition fees may be refunded. Read it before paying. For fee amounts, what your fee includes and where to find your invoice, return to Tuition fees.
Regulation on Tuition Fees
As a student at Chalmers, you must comply with laws and rules. These apply not only when you attend classes, take exams and how you treat other students and staff but also when you are liable to pay fees. Read the Regulation on Tuition Fees before paying your tuition fees.

Payment obligations
Admission is conditional until the first tuition fee is paid in full, in one instalment.
Tuition fees must be paid in full by the deadlines set by Chalmers. Programme students must pay one semester at a time, before the semester starts, except under the employer, company or foundation arrangement below.
Chalmers does not accept payment in instalments.
You must cover bank charges and currency differences in addition to the invoiced fee.
Current students who do not pay the stipulated fee by the prescribed date will be placed on academic suspension.
Fees are set before each academic year and may vary between programmes.
Tuition fees do not cover other costs related to admission or studies at Chalmers.
Payment information
Choose your payment method
Chalmers recommends Visa or Mastercard in the Pay Portal. You can also pay by bank transfer using the instructions there. Payments cannot be made on campus by card or in cash.
Make one payment for the full invoice. Use one card or one bank transfer. If several people help fund your payment, ask them to transfer the money to your account so you can make one payment.
Include payment references. For a bank transfer, state your invoice number and customer number so we can match the payment. Your customer number is different from your University Admissions application number.
Allow for bank charges and currency differences. You must cover these in addition to the invoiced amount. The fee is not fully paid if bank charges are deducted from it.
Pay in an accepted currency. SEK, EUR and USD are accepted. The invoice remains in SEK and cannot be changed to EUR or USD. Ask your bank about exchange rates; Chalmers cannot provide them.
Use your own card or account where possible. Chalmers does not recommend payment or exchange offices: extra bank checks can delay payment, and any refund must return to the original card or bank account. If someone pays for you, you are responsible for keeping that account open or that card usable for any refund. Read the refund payment conditions.
Payment processing times
You can see when your invoice is cleared in the Pay Portal. Allow 2–4 days for a card payment and 7–12 bank days for a bank transfer; bank days exclude weekends and Swedish public holidays. Card payments are debited immediately and initially shown as “in progress”.
Payment by an employer or organisation
Email tuitionfees@chalmers.se one week after the first selection results are published. Provide the company or foundation name and its contact person’s name and contact details. The tuition fee for the complete two-year programme, 120 credits, must be paid in advance, no later than 1 June.
Fees during your studies
The programme fee covers 30 credits per semester. Programme students registered for more than 30 credits in a semester must pay for the additional credits.
For single subject courses, tuition fees are based on the number of credits. You are liable to pay for every course you register for, regardless of your results.
Completing your studies faster does not reduce your tuition fee. If you do not complete a course, you may complete it later without paying an extra fee.
If you take part in an exchange programme through Chalmers, you must pay the full tuition fee to Chalmers for your studies abroad.
All outstanding tuition fees for programmes and courses must be paid before graduation.
Programme changes and credit transfers
If you change programme, you may need supplementary courses to graduate from the new programme. You must pay for any supplementary courses required. A scholarship awarded for your first programme can be revoked.
Credit transfers from another university reduce your tuition fee by the corresponding number of credits. The adjustment is made on the final invoice, in semester four. You are responsible for contacting Tuition Fees before that invoice is issued. This adjustment does not apply to exchange studies.
Refunds
Tuition fees can be refunded only in special circumstances. Please read the Regulation on Tuition Fees for details.
How an approved refund is paid
If a refund is approved, the full amount is refunded. Chalmers pays no interest, charges no administration fee and does not compensate bank fees connected with the refund.
All refunds must return to the same card or bank account used for payment. If someone else pays for you, you are responsible for ensuring that their account remains open or their card remains usable for a refund.
If Chalmers and its bank are not satisfied with the refund arrangements, the refund may be paused until a solution is in place.
Refund applications received in late spring or summer are handled during the autumn semester. Refunds are usually made in October or November, but the process can take several months, depending on the investigation required.
